Painting, for me, is a way of meditating and connecting to a higher dimension. It is a spiritual process that always leads to surprising results. The simple act of laying down paint and playing with colour and texture is a liberating process that heightens our awareness and helps us to live more mindfully.
As a art and design student in college, I remember being attracted to artists like Joan Miro, Paul Klee, Kandinsky, Franz Kline an Malevich. They made works that were powerful, playful and mysterious. Their works intrigued me because they conveyed feelings and thoughts that cannot fully be described with words and objective representation.
In my work, I like to focus on the sensorial and intuitive aspects of experience. For instance, the scent of a special place or the feeling of wind on a particular day. Lingering recollections of people, nature, spaces and places.
I paint my life stories. Sometimes a song or a book will inspire a new colour palette and at times, the finished painting itself brings me back to a memory. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy making them.
All artworks are original works produced using acrylics or mixed media such as acrylics, pencil and oil pastels on canvas.
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you through all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. --Martha Graham.

“Of the many lovely pieces of art by Emy, I was totally drawn to this particular one which reminded me of my favourite childhood memory of the time spent by the beach in Penang. A beautiful blend of the hues of the sea bombarded by the golden sun ray.”

Abstract art was not my thing and I never quite appreciated this form of art until I saw Emy’s collection. For the first time, I experience affinity with abstract art and the desire to take a piece home to hang on my blank walls. Firecracker in particular brightens up my mood and my room. Simply love it! Looking forward to my next piece.

I received 'Waterfalls' as a Christmas gift. Now that I have had about two weeks to admire it, I have grown to love the sheer vibrancy and effervescence of the painting. It is both joyous and calming. The painting also makes for a wonderful conversation piece and will certainly not be our last purchase from Emy as it has ignited a keen interest in her work.

I chose Remembering and Forgetting as the idea underlying it is very meaningful. It's always refreshing to see how she injects soul and meaning into her work. I wish her success on her journey in art and that she finds true happiness in the process.
